    Meet Frank (enstein).

      Frank

My favorite steel guitar player wanted an instrument he could play on the bus and sitting around an acoustic jam. We worked together to pick out the wood and on design ideas. What fun to see this project come to life!

Frank is an acoustic steel guitar featuring:

      • Mahogany and figured maple neck
      • Figured Rosewood back and sides
      • Maple burl back wedge
      • Ebony binding
      • Green abalone and purple oyster shell inlay
      • Tricone
      • 8 strings
      • Short (steel guitar) scale length

This project was a fantastic challenge! Check it out with The Malpass Brothers on RFD-TV.

Custom Rosewood guitar for a very happy customer

        "Trapdoor" Style Banjo

          Tharp "trapdoor" style banjo

I've always been intrigued by Gibson's early trapdoor style banjos.  While I love me a good open back banjo, sometimes you just need that extra projection.  Trapdoor banjos offer this option.

          This custom banjo features:

          • Walnut neck
          • "special" rosewood
            • resonator
            • fingerboard
            • tailpiece
          • Bone & abalone inlays (the bone harvested from our Archtop ranch steer)
          • Figured maple binding
          • Minstrel style bridge
          • Gut strings

With a full, rich tone and features sure to turn heads, this banjo is a real pleasure to play.  Be the envy of your next old-time jam! Call me to schedule a test drive!

A fine piece of history in the shop

Excited to put the shine and thump back in this fine 1940s Kay formerly owned and played by the great Roy Husky Jr.
